Your range, oven, or stove is the center of your kitchen. When it stops working, the oven won’t heat, a burner won’t light, or the temperature is unpredictably off, daily cooking stops, and delivery apps start.
Home Appliance Care provides certified oven repair in Northern Virginia for gas and electric ranges, freestanding stoves, built-in wall ovens, and double ovens.
We are certified for Thermador, GE, Whirlpool, and Samsung, covering everything from a Woodbridge family’s GE freestanding range to a McLean luxury kitchen’s Thermador dual-fuel range.
Every repair starts with a flat-rate quote before we start, and ends with a written warranty.

We use the words range, oven, and stove interchangeably in daily conversation — but they describe slightly different appliances. Here is what each is so you can describe your fault correctly when you call:
An all-in-one unit with a cooktop on top and an oven below. Can be slid into a kitchen slot or stand alone. The most common kitchen appliance in Northern Virginia homes. Available in gas, electric, and dual-fuel configurations
An oven installed inside a wall cabinet, separate from the cooktop. Common in remodelled kitchens and luxury homes. Single or double wall ovens. Thermador, GE Profile, and Whirlpool Gold are most common in Northern Virginia.
A surface cooking unit installed into a counter, separate from the oven. Gas, electric, or induction. Cooktop repair is covered on our dedicated cooktop page
Fits flush between cabinets with controls on the front panel. Popular in remodelled kitchens. Slightly different installation than freestanding but repaired the same way for all common faults.
These are the oven and range repair symptoms that Northern Virginia homeowners most often describe to us. Each point to a specific cause, most are first-visit fixes.
An oven that will not heat at all, or that takes much longer than normal to reach temperature is the most common oven repair call we receive. Gas and electric ovens fail in different ways
The bake element is the lower heating coil in your electric oven. When it burns out, you may see a visible break in the coil or sparking before failure. The oven then heats unevenly or not at all. This is one of the most common electric oven repairs HAC performs in Northern Virginia. First visit fix in most cases.
The gas oven igniter glows to heat up before the gas valve opens. When it weakens, it still glows but cannot reach the temperature needed to open the valve. The oven clicks repeatedly but never lights, or lights only intermittently. This is both an inconvenience and a safety concern. Certified gas technicians only.
The temperature sensor, also called a probe or RTD, tells the control board when to cycle the element or burner. When it fails, the oven overshoots, underheats, or throws an error code. Baking results suffer well before the appliance stops working entirely.
A gas stove burner that will not light, sparks continuously without catching, or has a weak or uneven flame is usually one of three causes:
Food debris and grease block the small ports around the burner head. Most common cause. HAC cleans burners every visit.
Each burner has its own igniter. When one fails, that burner will not spark. Repair runs $80 to $160 per igniter.
The igniter switch is wet or defective. Turn off the stove, dry the surface, and call HAC if clicking continues.
Never open gas valves, supply lines, or the manifold yourself. Certified technician work only. HAC's gas certified techs handle it safely.
An oven door that will not close fully, has a torn door seal, or bounces back open when you push it causes significant heat loss, your food cooks unevenly and the oven takes far longer to reach temperature
The gasket around the door retains heat. When it hardens or tears, heat escapes constantly. Repair runs $80 to $150.
Hinges wear out on ovens used daily for years. A sagging or fast dropping door needs replacement. Repair runs $90 to $180
The latch engages during self cleaning. When it fails, the cycle will not start or the door stays locked. Repair runs $80 to $150.
The inner glass panel can crack under thermal stress, then heat reaches the outer glass. HAC diagnoses and quotes on first visit.
Modern ranges and ovens, especially Thermador, GE Profile, and Samsung smart ranges, rely heavily on electronic control boards. When these fail:
The broil element is the upper heating coil in an electric oven, used for broiling and for browning the top of dishes. When it fails independently of the bake element
The self-cleaning cycle heats the oven cavity to 900– 950°F to incinerate food residue. It is one of the most thermally demanding cycles the appliance performs, and it causes more control board failures and thermal limiter trips than standard cooking cycles.

Yes. Home Appliance Care is Thermador certified — factory-trained on Thermador gas, electric, and dual-fuel ranges including the PRO Harmony, Professional, and Masterpiece series. White-glove protocol on every Thermador visit. Serving McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Oakton, and all Northern Virginia luxury kitchen addresses. See → /thermador-range-oven-repair-northern-virginia/
Inaccurate oven temperature is almost always a failed temperature sensor (also called an RTD or probe). The sensor tells the control board when to cycle the element or gas burner. When it fails, the oven overshoots or undershoots temperature. A temperature sensor replacement is one of the most common oven repairs we perform. Cost: $80–$160.
Standard Whirlpool range warranties cover 1 year for parts and labour. As Whirlpool’s Authorized service provider in Northern Virginia, we can check your warranty status with your model number. If your Whirlpool or KitchenAid range is eligible, the repair may be covered at $0 out-of-pocket.
Continuous sparking is usually caused by moisture or food residue on the igniter switch, or a defective igniter switch. Dry the surface thoroughly and try again. If sparking continues, turn off the burner gas supply and call for repair. Do not continue using the burner with continuous uncontrolled sparking. See → /stove-burner-not-lighting/
Most oven repairs in Northern Virginia cost between $80 and $280. Bake element: $100–$200. Gas oven igniter: $120–$220. Temperature sensor: $80–$160. Door gasket: $80–$150. Control board: $150–$350. HAC always quotes flat-rate before starting. See → /oven-repair-cost/
Yes. We repair single and double wall ovens from all major brands — Thermador, GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Samsung. Wall oven repairs use the same diagnostic approach as freestanding ranges, with some additional complexity for built-in units due to access and installation requirements.
If your range is under 12 years old and the fault is a single component, repair is almost always the right call. A 7-year-old GE range with a failed bake element ($150 repair) versus a $700–$1,400 replacement is straightforward. For a Thermador range, repair at almost any cost under 15 years old makes financial sense. We give you both options honestly.
Home Appliance Care provides certified oven and range repair across Northern Virginia — from Woodbridge and Manassas to the luxury kitchen corridor of McLean, Great Falls, and Vienna.
