Your cooktop is the most-used surface in your kitchen. One failed burner, a cracked glass surface, or an induction zone that will not heat throws your entire cooking routine off — and the cause is usually fixable in a single certified visit.
Open burner flames visible when lit. Requires a gas supply line. Identifiable by burner grates sitting above the surface.

Most cooktop repair in Northern Virginia falls into one of the three technology types below. Here is what each symptom means and what the repair involves.
If you smell gas near your cooktop at any time — whether a burner is on or off — do not operate any switches or open flames. Ventilate the area, leave the building, and call Washington Gas emergency line (1-844-WASHGAS). Return only after the gas utility clears the area. HAC’s certified gas technicians handle all gas component work.
The most common gas cooktop call in Northern Virginia. Either the burner ports are clogged with food debris and grease — preventing consistent gas flow — or the spark igniter has failed. Our technicians clean burner assemblies and replace igniters on the first visit in most cases. Never attempt to clear gas ports with metal tools or compressed air.
If your gas cooktop keeps sparking after you turn the burner off, moisture or food residue has reached the igniter switch. Dry the surface with a soft cloth and try again. If sparking continues, the igniter switch or spark module is defective. Turn off the gas supply to that burner and call for certified repair.
A flame that is lower on one side, orange instead of blue, or weak at the tips indicates partially clogged burner orifices or a partially blocked venturi tube. Our technicians clean and inspect the full burner assembly. A clean, calibrated flame is also more energy-efficient.
Each induction zone has a dedicated electromagnetic coil beneath the glass. When a coil fails, that zone stops working while other zones remain normal. The display may show no error code. Induction coil replacement requires disassembly of the cooktop and brand-specific component access — factory-certified technicians only for Thermador and Bosch.
When multiple induction zones fail simultaneously, or an error code appears that persists after power cycling, the main control board has failed. Control boards manage all zone activation, power regulation, and safety monitoring. Brand-certified diagnosis is critical — misidentifying a control board fault as a coil fault leads to unnecessary and expensive part replacement.
Before calling for repair: check the circuit breaker for the cooktop circuit, and look for a control lock icon on the display (hold the lock button 3 seconds to deactivate). If neither resolves it, the power supply board or main control board needs diagnosis.
A single radiant element that will not heat is almost always the element itself. Most radiant elements sit in an exposed position and are visible when the cooktop is off. A visible crack or dark spot confirms the diagnosis
A cracked glass-ceramic surface on an electric or induction cooktop is a safety concern — do not use the cooktop until repaired. Cracks allow moisture to reach electrical components. Glass replacement:
When all elements fail simultaneously, the control board or power supply is the cause — not individual elements. Check the circuit breaker first. If power is fine, book a diagnostic.
A touch control panel that is partially unresponsive or erratic usually indicates a failed user interface board or moisture damage to the touch sensors. Repair
Thermador cooktops — gas, induction, and electric — are the most common luxury cooktop brand in Northern Virginia’s McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, and Oakton kitchen market. Thermador’s patented Star burner design requires factory-specific knowledge to diagnose and repair correctly.
GE-certified for all GE and GE Profile range and oven models — freestanding, slide-in, and wall ovens. GE is one of the most common range brands in Woodbridge, Manassas, and Fairfax County homes built before 2015.
Whirlpool Authorized — covers Whirlpool, Maytag, and KitchenAid ranges and wall ovens under warranty at $0 co-pay for eligible claims. One of the most common warranty-covered oven repairs we perform
Samsung-certified for all Samsung freestanding and slide-in ranges including the popular NE and NX series. Samsung smart range control board faults are diagnosed with brand-specific tools.
We also repair Frigidaire, Kenmore, LG, Bosch, and Electrolux ranges and wall ovens. Call with your model number to confirm availability before scheduling.
No other appliance repair company in Northern Virginia covers all three cooktop technologies under one roof. Whether you have a Thermador gas cooktop in McLean, a Bosch induction in Herndon, or a GE radiant in Woodbridge, one call covers it.
Induction faults are frequently misdiagnosed. A failed zone is often a coil fault, not a control board — but replacing the wrong component costs $150–$200 more than necessary. HAC’s induction-certified technicians use brand-specific tools to identify the exact fault before quoting.
Thermador’s patented Star burner system requires factory knowledge. Our certified techs know the igniter positioning, burner cap fit, and sealed burner assembly behaviour — not guesswork from a generic wiring manual.

Not necessarily. Most induction cooktops require magnetic cookware — test with a fridge magnet. If it sticks to the bottom of your pan, the pan is compatible. If the error persists with a confirmed magnetic pan, either the pan is too small for the zone, slightly warped, or not centred. If repositioning does not fix it, you have a genuine coil or control board fault.

Yes — but stop using the cooktop immediately. A cracked glass-ceramic surface on an induction or electric radiant cooktop is a safety concern. Moisture can reach electrical components through the crack, and the sharp edge is a physical hazard. Glass replacement: $150–$350 depending on brand, cooktop size, and configuration. We quote flat-rate after inspection.
Dry the surface thoroughly — moisture on the igniter switch is the most common cause. If clicking continues after drying, the igniter switch is defective. Turn off the gas supply to that burner using the shut-off valve and call for repair. Do not leave a continuously sparking igniter unattended.
Gas burner igniter: $80–$180. Induction coil: $180–$350. Induction control board: $200–$400. Electric radiant element: $80–$160. Glass replacement: $150–$350. HAC always quotes flat-rate before starting
If your cooktop is under 10 years old and the fault is a single component, repair is almost always the right call. A 6-year-old Bosch induction cooktop with a failed zone coil ($250 repair) versus $1,200–$2,000 for a replacement is a clear decision. Thermador cooktops are almost always worth repairing at any age given their replacement cost. We give you both options honestly.
Our cooktop repair service covers standalone cooktops installed in a counter. If you have a freestanding or slide-in range with an integrated cooktop, that falls under our Range, Oven & Stove Repair service.
If your range is under 12 years old and the fault is a single component, repair is almost always the right call. A 7-year-old GE range with a failed bake element ($150 repair) versus a $700–$1,400 replacement is straightforward. For a Thermador range, repair at almost any cost under 15 years old makes financial sense. We give you both options honestly.
Home Appliance Care provides certified cooktop repair across Northern Virginia — from the Bosch induction-heavy tech corridor of Herndon, Reston, and Ashburn to the Thermador and GE gas cooktops of Fairfax County and the luxury kitchen corridor of McLean, Great Falls, and Vienna.
