Our customer said their ice maker repeatedly broke and had to be replaced multiple times by different companies. The Real Root Cause: A Dripping Water Fill Tube

The small drip was determined to be the root cause for the failed replacements. After several cycles the water droplet froze to the tube fill tip as a small, hard, iceberg style chunk. During the ice harvesting cycle, the ice tray twists and flexes to release the ice. The ice formed on the fill tube tip, and the ice tray was then driven against the ice to flex the tray. This caused the ice tray to be damaged, and caused the entire unit to be rendered inoperable.

We used metal tape to extend the water tube heater to allow the heater’s warmth to reach even further down the tube. This enhancement allowed the heater to cover the entire length of the water fill tube. Instead of freezing, the water droplets are now kept warm and completely drained, preventing the damaging effect of ice.

With the actual issue now addressed, the damage to the tray no longer needed to be repaired due to our replacement of an intact part.
